TOMs Dice Box 2.0 is a simple, affordable adaptive tool that gives people with limited fine motor skills the independence to play dice games on their own terms.

It’s made from just two parts: a clear plastic dome (available at most hardware stores) and a custom 3D-printed base that holds it in place.

To use it, dice are placed inside the dome, which is then shaken to roll, no gripping, pinching, or throwing required.

The clear dome lets players easily see the results, keeping the game fair, fast, and fully independent.

Introducing the Coggon Crawler!

“The existing devices are usually very large and don’t provide head support. Devices that do provide some head support are intended for infants and don’t support children in this 18 months and up range who still need quadruped positioning and creeping/crawling practice.”

...So she built the fix herself! Cassidy reached out to a University of Wisconsin–Madison engineering team in 2024 after seeing TOMs Toddler Mobility Trainer (TMT) they built for her patient, Emerald.

The result: an affordable, open-source device offering secure positioning and head support, so kids can safely practice crawling while caregivers’ hands are free to engage face-to-face!

Day 2 of the TOM Fellowship Kickoff took our cohort deeper into the work. The morning opened with a TOM Communities show & tell, a special address from Mike Leven, and sessions on the Fellowship and designing for disability. In the afternoon, Fellows toured the Shepherd Center to see rehabilitation engineering in action, then headed to Georgia Tech’s Invention Studio for a Toddler Mobility Trainer Build Party, hands-on, high-energy, and exactly the kind of work this Fellowship is built around. The day closed with dinner on the rooftop at Ponce City Market. 💙💚🧡

The TeraBridges Motorized TMT takes a 3D-printed Toddler Mobility Trainer (TMT) and adds motor-driven wheels and a joystick — without altering the original TMT design — so toddlers and preschoolers with mobility impairments can move independently. Speed-limiting electronics keep it safe and stable, and the low-cost, easy-to-build approach makes powered mobility affordable where it’s usually out of reach. It was designed with Elias, a Need-Knower at Child’s Way, a Pittsburgh daycare for medically fragile children.

GIC 2026 Winners Week Day 1: Grand Prize!
Today’s spotlight: the Adaptive Golf Prosthetic, designed with Sean and designed by Ray Ruben (@pierce_the_snail) at Thomas Jefferson University.

It steadies the golf swing for players with an upper-limb difference, doing the stabilizing work of the missing arm so the functional arm can do the rest.
