The Ring Book Holder slips onto your thumb and keeps pages open, so you can read with one hand.

It’s designed for people with limited hand or finger mobility, and it takes just 30 minutes to 3D print in PLA!

Like all TOM products, it’s free and open-source. Download it, print it, share it. Link in bio.

Get your game on! 🎲

TOMs Dice Box 2.0 is a simple, affordable adaptive tool that gives people with limited fine motor skills the independence to play dice games on their own terms.

It’s made from just two parts: a clear plastic dome (available at most hardware stores) and a custom 3D-printed base that holds it in place.

To use it, dice are placed inside the dome, which is then shaken to roll, no gripping, pinching, or throwing required.

The clear dome lets players easily see the results, keeping the game fair, fast, and fully independent.

Introducing the Coggon Crawler!

“The existing devices are usually very large and don’t provide head support. Devices that do provide some head support are intended for infants and don’t support children in this 18 months and up range who still need quadruped positioning and creeping/crawling practice.”

— Cassidy (Coggon) Sanchez, PT, PCS, pediatric PT in WI for 26 years

...So she built the fix herself! Cassidy reached out to a University of Wisconsin–Madison engineering team in 2024 after seeing TOMs Toddler Mobility Trainer (TMT) they built for her patient, Emerald.

The result: an affordable, open-source device offering secure positioning and head support, so kids can safely practice crawling while caregivers’ hands are free to engage face-to-face!

Credits:
🔧Conceived by Cassidy (Coggon) Sanchez, PT, PCS
🔧Engineered by Peter Noonan, Jesse Darley, Landon Bilkia, Jacob Hansen + UW–Madison Grainger Engineering Design Innovation Labs
💛Designed with Emerald, Evan & their families
⏱️V2 development: in the works at TOM NYC with local partners

Cassidy is a PT at Emplify Health by Gundersen (Hillsboro, WI) and a 2000 grad of UW–La Crosse’s MSPT program — @uwl_alumniandfriends — celebrating its 50th reunion this October.

Open-source & free for any family or clinic who needs it

Day 2 of the TOM Fellowship Kickoff took our cohort deeper into the work. The morning opened with a TOM Communities show & tell, a special address from Mike Leven, and sessions on the Fellowship and designing for disability. In the afternoon, Fellows toured the Shepherd Center to see rehabilitation engineering in action, then headed to Georgia Tech’s Invention Studio for a Toddler Mobility Trainer Build Party, hands-on, high-energy, and exactly the kind of work this Fellowship is built around. The day closed with dinner on the rooftop at Ponce City Market. 💙💚🧡

Two days in, and this cohort is turning inspiration into action. 🔧

Day 1 of the 2026 TOM Fellowship Kickoff is in the books. Fellows arrived in Atlanta, checked in, and gathered for welcome remarks kicking off this year’s cohort. The evening moved through icebreakers, a hands-on packing party assembling adaptive tools for people who need them, and wrapped with dinner and bowling!!!

One day in, and this group is already building the connections that will carry them through a 9-month journey of designing open-source assistive technology. Welcome, Fellows. 💙💚🧡

We think that carpal tunnel pain shouldn’t be a barrier to make some great whipped cream! Chef Barry came to us with this challenge and after some design and engineering - et voila! The cream (and this new device) was *chef’s kiss* 👨‍🍳 😗 🤌#tomglobal #tikkunolammakers #assistivetech #carpaltunnel

🏆 GIC 2026 Winners Week — Day 7: Documentation

Today’s spotlight: the Stability Chair, designed with Matthew and designed by Mark, Giordana, AnnMarie, Joshua, Samantha, and Matthew at The Center for Discovery — Harris, NY.

This seating solution improves postural stability and functional positioning for people who need additional support — and it earned recognition for outstanding documentation. Clear, comprehensive, open-source files mean this design doesn’t stay in one workshop: makers anywhere in the world can reproduce it, adapt it, and put it to work for someone in their own community. That’s what turns a good solution into a global one.

All week, we’re celebrating the winners of the 2026 Global Innovation Challenge — TOM’s annual competition that takes teams through the full TOM Process to co-create open-source solutions with Need-Knowers. Mentored along the way and judged by an international panel, these teams didn’t just design something clever — they made real, replicable impact for people facing neglected challenges.
We’re spotlighting winners across four categories this week:
🥇 Grand Prize
♿ 3D Toddler Mobility Trainer (3DTMT) Accessory
⭐ Honorable Mention

🏆 GIC 2026 Winners Week — Day 6: Honorable Mention
Today’s spotlight: a one-handed toilet paper holder, designed with Kobi Segel and designed by Bar and Maxim (with mentors Naama Agassi and Ilan Elkarat).
For people with limited mobility in one arm, an everyday routine can become a real daily challenge. This solution makes it effortless — touch-free operation, built-in roll resistance, and accessible, left-side installation for true one-handed use. It was designed with Kobi, a disabled veteran with limited right-arm mobility, whose Need-Knower insight defined exactly what it needed to do.

🏆 GIC 2026 Winners Week — Day 5: 3DTMT Accessory
Today’s spotlight: an AAC / tablet mount for the Toddler Mobility Trainer, designed by Katelyn.
It lets an AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) device clip directly into the TMT’s accessory slot, so children who use AAC can keep their communication device within easy reach while they’re on the move. Designed for children who use AAC devices — along with the physical, occupational, and speech-language therapists who support them — it means mobility and communication no longer have to be an either/or.

🏆 GIC 2026 Winners Week — Day 4: Grand Prize
Today’s spotlight: the Motorized TMT, designed with Elias and designed by Rama, Shreyan, Aaron, Ritu, and Rohan at from the Terabridges 18603 club at Upper St. Clair High School.
The TeraBridges Motorized TMT takes a 3D-printed Toddler Mobility Trainer (TMT) and adds motor-driven wheels and a joystick — without altering the original TMT design — so toddlers and preschoolers with mobility impairments can move independently. Speed-limiting electronics keep it safe and stable, and the low-cost, easy-to-build approach makes powered mobility affordable where it’s usually out of reach. It was designed with Elias, a Need-Knower at Child’s Way, a Pittsburgh daycare for medically fragile children.
